Towards Carbon Neutrality: Building a VCM for Sustainable Investment in Kazakhstan
Since 2013 Kazakhstan is heading to a low-carbon development through the Emission Trading System. However, as for the global trends, nowadays market participants are leaning towards Voluntary Carbon Markets. As Kazakhstan is the only country in Central Asia boosting carbon pricing mechanisms, it is possible that it can also become a center of VCM trading in Central Asia. The discussion will focus on pros and cons of carbon pricing mechanisms and on the issue of regulating both compliance and voluntary carbon markets.
