Moazzam A. Mekan
IFC Hub-Leader for Public-Private Partnerships, South Asia, World Bank Group
Mr. Mekan currently serves as the Lead for Public-Private Partnerships in South Asia within IFC’s Transaction Advisory Services. Prior to his current role, he was based in Almaty, Kazakhstan as the Regional Manager for Central Asia and in Dubai as the IFC Manager for IFC’s Transaction Advisory Services on Public-Private Partnerships for the Middle East & North Africa Region. In these roles, he spearheaded several pioneering regional public-private partnership projects, including the Almaty Ring Road Project (BAKAD), the Hajj and Medina Airports, Queen Alia International Airport, and the Cairo Wastewater Treatment Project.
He has over 30 years of experience in the field of infrastructure investments, M&A, and public-private partnerships, having undertaken some of the most transformational projects in the transport, water, oil & gas, agriculture, and health & education sectors in South Asia, Latin America, Europe & Central Asia, and the Middle East & North Africa. Under his leadership, IFC advised on some notable projects, including BAKAD, the CASA-1000 Power Transmission Project linking the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, the Bangladesh Patenga Port Project, and nearly 3,000 MW of renewable power projects in India, among others. He is currently spearheading several innovative transactions, such as airport concessions in Bangladesh and Pakistan, port concessions in Bangladesh, floating solar projects, pump-storage hydro, firm dispatch renewable projects in India, and the divestiture of a telecom company in Sri Lanka.
He joined the World Bank Group in 1988 in its Latin America & the Caribbean Region.
