Nurlan Zhakupov

Nurlan Zhakupov completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Economics, and earned a Candidate of Economic Sciences at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. Mr. Zhakupov embarked on his career journey in 2001 as a Financial Analyst at the Eurasian Industrial Association (ENRC). Over the years, he has held various key positions, including Business Manager at Chambishi Metals PLC, Project Manager at Research, Investment and Development Ltd, and Analyst for the Credit Suisse basic materials team. In 2009, he assumed the role of Managing Director at Tau-Ken Samruk JSC. His career continued to ascend, and by 2011, he was appointed Director of the Investment Banking Department and Head of the Representative Office in Kazakhstan at Royal Bank of Scotland. In 2012, he advanced to Executive Director at UBS Bank.
From 2016 to 2017, Mr. Zhakupov served as Managing Director at Kazatomprom JSC. Following this role, he was appointed Chairman of the Management Board at Social and Entrepreneurial Corporation Astana JSC. His expertise further expanded when he represented Rothschild & Co. in Kazakhstan from 2019 to 2020. Then he excelled as Chief Executive Officer at Kazakhstan Investment Development Fund Management Company Ltd. Since April 2023, Mr. Zhakupov has been serving as Chairman of the Management Board at Samruk-Kazyna JSC.
